This is the final front cover.
I really like how it turned out, it's different to what I had imaged it as but different in a good way. It has everything needed for the front cover. All the information is portrayed how I had hoped it would be and works well for the target audience. I think the font works well and the colours chosen have been used throughout the magazine pages.

This is the Contents page and double page spread.

They worked alot like I had imaged them. They go with the genre I had chosen and I am really pleased with them. All the fonts and colours are used throughtout each of the pages, keeping it to a theme.

Overall i've had good feedback and everyone has really liked the look of the magazine.

Fonts

These are the Fonts I chose from www.Dafont.com for the Magazine cover, double page spread and contents:

The first font out of the 3 was used as the main writing throughout the magazine pages, It's a very simple Sans serif font, It's big and bold writing is eye catching. Nothing fancy. Just simple and effective.
The second font was used for the band name in the feature double page spread. Also a Sans serif font. Used as the logo of the band 'Riot!' it works well within the rest of the page and the style of the band I was trying to portray.
The last font in the list was used for the magazine title. Another Sans serif font. This one would be a trademark for the magazine, and what it would be known for. So it had to be something bold, simple, big and defiantly something eye catching so that people would see it and recognize what it is. I chose the title 'LAME!' with the tag line 'So lame it's cool!' It was cheesy, and random. Almost a reverse of what it is. Making the word Lame cool instead of an insult or something described as bad.

This font was used for the barcode on the front cover. It's very similar to a real barcode and I just chose what numbers to use and It made a very realistic barcode.

Stories&Interviews, key headlines ideas.

For the main text on the double page spread I decided to do an interview of 'Loreni' so I researched other magazine interviews with Teen musicians such as; Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus But as these stars are not in the same genre of music as my magazine I also researched Paramore interviews with Hailey Williams. I then came up with a few questions to ask, As I had based the image on a friend of mine, I decided to interview her, She isn't a musician or anything but she helped me think up the answers. We chose the questions:
- To someone who has never heard of you, how would you describe your music?
- Who inspires you?
- Do you have any advice for teens like you that want to get into the music business?
- What are you planning to do after the tour?
- What's your next move with your music?

We chose these questions because I had seen similar ones come up quite a lot in interviews from other magazines.

For the key headlines I looked through at the contents pages of Kerrang and NME to see what is usually featured. Also making up a few titles as It had to be original. I chose these titles:
- Moments of the week...
- Top 20 in LAME!
- New bands rising?!?!
- FREE POSTERS
- Elliot Minor - TOUR!
- WIN WIN WIN!
- Loreni - Riot!
- LYRICpage.
- YourBANDart
- Featuring GEORGE&his new band
- Band Merchindise @MAMSTORE
- Fan Letters
- TheDAYS
- NEXT Time...

The typography chosen for this was the same one used through out the pages made. I decided to go Capital on a lot of it, and also a lot of exclamation marks. This was as looking at teenage writing and how they talk to their friends they seem to use this a lot. It also makes the page look more eye catching and exciting to look at. It's something different.

Photos for my final magazine.

For the final photo's i have chosen A front cover image, some small thumbnails for stories and 2 main images for my double page spread.

This is the image for the front cover, i chose this because it is a medium close up photo with the right kind of look i was going for and style my magazine aims for. I chose to have the picture in black and white as it looked better once the front cover was finishing up. The heart on her hand and how her arms are placed were from experimenting with different poses. I like this image and think it works well as the front cover of a magazine of this genre.

This is one of the images chosen to feature in the double page spread. It's the same image I used for the front cover but edited using photoshop. I changed the brightness and contrast and added a background. 'Riot!' as in the band she is in. I like this picture and the style of the photo works well for the image her music portrays. I also used this picutre as a thumbnail on the contents page for a preview of the featured band.

This is the second of the images used in the double page spread. I left this image with it's colour because the page needed some colour in it. This is another one of the photos we experimented with. We thought of this pose after thinking maybe if she was blocking out the sound with her hands, i liked the effect of the image and how it's different to alot of photo's you'd normally see in a magazine. The background is again, 'Riot!' being the band name. I also used this for another one of the thumbnails on the contents. It was this
image but without the 'Riot!' background.

#
The Contents thumbnails:
I took a few pictures for the contents thumbnails to show what will be featured inside the magazine. I chose to have 6 small images and a picture drawn on paint to make it look better.

I used this image for one of the thumbnails on the front cover and contents page with the title 'Elliot Minor Tour' This was taken when I went to see Elliot Minor in brighton. I thought it looked really effective with the smoke and lighting in the background, Singer: Alex, playing his guitar with the fan's hands reaching up to him.

This is the second thumbnail for contents and front page for the 'Elliot Minor Tour' It chose this photo because it's close to the stage, showing all the band members, The lighting is clear and you can see what is happening on stage.

These are 2 of the last images I used for the thumbnails on the contents and front page. I like them because they are in a different area to the other images, With the background being outside. One of them he isnt looking into the camera, We were experimenting with different poses and I thought this one had a good effect.

This is the last image on the contents page I drew it on paint to fill in the tiny gap, It was a random idea but I think it works well. The magazine is very random and it goes with the style image of the magazine. The robot is listening to music as it's a music magazine.

My magazine flat plans.

These are the flat plans for my final music magazine. I drew the rough idea's for what I want the magazine to feature. First asking myself; One person in the main photo or two?, How many featuring pictures?, Where shall the bar code go?, What writing should be on the magazine?, Where should it be?.
In the end here are the outcomes:
I made 2 front covers as at the time I had been looking and trying out different donts for the title. Having different versions for the front cover and to take parts from each for the main magazine cover. One main image as the background of the magazine. Title at the top, tag line underneath. 3 pictures down the right side of the page. Barcode in the bottom left corner, Writing 'new band' as the main story in the magazine.

Also the double page spread flat plans. I decided that the main image would be on the left side page and the writing/story/interview would be on the other page. Title above the photograph. A few images on the right page for a more eye catching story.

Finally the flat plan for the contents page, It's pretty simple. Title at the top of the page, 6 thumbnail sized photos. 2 on the left, 4 on the right to go with some of the page headlines. Numbers down the middle, in a mixed style, Like most magazine's you'd see on the shelf now the numbers are chosen at random. I will choose different fonts and a colour theme throughout the actual magazine.

Analysis of Double page spread.

For the double page analysis i have used pages from the magazine 'NME'. These pages' show alot of information. It has one big picture of the band that they have featured in the magazine. The main body of text is an interview, about the band telling all the readers who they are and what they are about. There is a total of 5 images on the page; 1 big one and 4 smaller ones. The main image is of the band, It is definatly eye catching and the first thing you look at on the page. They are all laying on a bed, showing they are relaxed, easy going people. This is a good effect to have on the readers as it makes you want to get to know them. The picture takes up a whole page, and only has a few boxes of text ontop of it. The top left corner of the picture is text 'RADAR' to introduce the page, maybe it is a feature used in the magazine. The text in the bottom left corner is titled 'NEED TO KNOW' telling us a few facts about the band in bold, Sans serif fonts. The colours throughout the double page is kept limited. Black white and blue for the text only. The title of the pages 'THE TEENAGERS'; Bold, capital letters, black writing in a blue box. It is kept simple and does what it is supposed to. The text on the white background is the interview with the band, starting off the interview with a subtitle 'Young, dumb and full of... filthy tunes'. It's an odd start to the writing but makes you want to read on, wondering what they mean by it. There is a small image next to the start of the writing. This is of someone in the band, Maybe the person they interviewed. Half way down the text it is cut off with a quote from part of the interview, making you want to read it more, wondering what they mean. At the bottom of the interview is the NME website logo, advertising the magazine more. On the other half of the second page is a different section of the magazine. Titled 'Everyones talking about...' and going on to tell us more about new bands on the scene. There are 2 thumbnails down the side, of each band mentioned. With a small bit of text and a title. The background here is black and the font is white, cutting itself off from the teenagers feature. Making it easier to show you that it's not part of the same topic. At the bottom on the right is another thumbnail titled 'my favourite new band by Alex Turner' this must be one of the editors for the magazine showing his personal views towards new bands and telling the reader this so they will feel more connected to the editors and know them more.

Analysis of Contents page

For the analysis of the contents page I am using a page from the 'Kerrang' magazine. There is alot of information on this page, it is very busy. There are a total of 10 images on the page. The one in the top right corner is of the editor, welcoming the reader to the magazine and signing it off under the welcome note. This will give the reader a good attitude to the magazine and want to buy it. Next to that is a short sentence from a reader of the magazine, making you and every reader feel part of what is put into the magazine and that you could have your say. The rest of the images grab the readers attention and draws them into the magazine. If their favourite artist is featured there then they are more likely to buy the issue. The images are of music artists featured throughout the magazine, with the page number next to them so the reader knows what page to turn to for what column they want to read. The colours have been kept very similar throughout the page, keeping the Yellow and black writing on the white background. The writing in the right column is the listing of what is in the magazine, showing all the topics, story's and page numbers of each column. It is small, using a serif font. The title of the page 'Contents' is yellow with black background using the font 'Kerrang' is known for, and its trademark font, linking it to the magazine. Having 'PLUS!' written in a star attracts the readers eye making the reader drawn to what it says. Having '33 READING AND LEEDS MASSIVE 8 PAGE REVIEW!' would be interesting to alot of the target audience as the popular Reading festival is a big music event that happens every year. If you happen to go to the festival this would appeal to you. This issue must have been released shortly after the event happened. I want to try and make sure my contents page is full of images, information and as eye-catching as this one.
